Family story that "Robert's mother" used to carry her children to work in the Mills on her back, since she had been widowed with several young children. The children used to clean under the mill machines from 6am to 6pm.

Another part of this story is that Robert Sumner came up from London - no evidence of this as yet, although quite possible that one of the branches of the family did so?
